Motorcycle Racing News from SportNetwork.com

11/8/09 - Final race of 2009 goes to Dani Pedrosa
Valentino Rossi had won the 2009 MotoGP World Championship in Malaysia, and there was just one race left for the multiple champion on this season’s Fiat Yamaha M1. Valencia in Spain hosted round 17, a venue where the Italian had won twice, but not since 2004. His rivals Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner had won in the last two visits, with Dani a four-time winner here.
11/8/09 - More wins for BSB champ Camier at Oulton
23-year-old Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier had secured the 2009 British Superbike Championship title at Silverstone, something that had looked almost inevitable after he won four of the first five races this year. The wins had kept on coming, and now the Oulton Park season finale offered a triple header in which Leon might be able to break yet more records.
11/8/09 - Leon Camier is new British Superbike champ
Stuart Easton had been a first time British Superbike winner at Croft, but still Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier had closed in towards the 2009 championship title, winning race two. With five races left, the 23-year-old needed just 26 points even if James Ellison won them all. Another win for Leon would deny his team-mate, and Silverstone was somewhere Leon had won at in 2008.
11/8/09 - First BSB race win for Stuart Easton at Croft
Even with an exclusion from race two at Cadwell Park, Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier remained the man on form in the 2009 British Superbike Championship, and he still led the way by almost 100 points on arrival at Croft. Two wins at round ten could seal the title for Leon, depending on whether team-mate James Ellison could follow him home both times. Would Leon do it?
10/25/09 - Rossi champion as Stoner wins the race
Casey Stoner was back on top form, but second place in Australia had almost assured Valentino Rossi of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship crown, given that his nearest rival had crashed out. Fiat Yamaha team-mates Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo were now separated by 38 points, with the Italian needing just one fourth place finish to make sure. Malaysia hosted round sixteen.
10/19/09 - Another home GP win for Casey Stoner
A win in Portugal for Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo took him to 18 points behind team-mate Valentino Rossi in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, as the Italian was only fourth. But round fifteen of the series would be at Phillip Island in Australia, where Rossi had won seven times in the past. But then Lorenzo was amongst a number of former winners at the same venue.
10/4/09 - Lorenzo dominates Portuguese MotoGP
Valentino Rossi had won the San Marino GP, his sixth victory of the season, to extend his MotoGP World Championship advantage over Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo to thirty points. Round fourteen was at Estoril in Portugal, where Rossi had won five previous Grands Prix, but also where Lorenzo had been a first time MotoGP victor in 2008. Would they battle it out here?
9/14/09 - No BSB double for Leon Camier at Cadwell
Could Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier possibly lose the 2009 British Superbike Championship, having won fourteen of seventeen races? Even if his form dipped, had anyone else shown enough consistent pace to mount a late challenge? Indeed, were the Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki machinery truly capable of challenging the Yamaha YZF-R1 as campaigned by GSE Racing?
9/6/09 - Rossi on top again in San Marino GP
Valentino Rossi crashed out of the Indianapolis Grand Prix, leaving Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo to win unchallenged. This cut Rossi’s lead in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship to 25 points, but still left him in a fairly comfortable position. Even so, he would want to make amends in round thirteen, which brought him back home for the race at Misano.
9/6/09 - Jorge Lorenzo’s turn at the Indy GP
Jorge Lorenzo crashed out of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, leaving Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi to win unchallenged. This put Rossi fifty points clear in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, and he was looking well on course for yet another title. Round twelve would be in the second ever visit to the famous Indianapolis circuit in the United States.
9/6/09 - BSB triple win at Brands for Leon Camier
Fourteen races down in the 2009 British Superbike Championship and Airwaves Yamaha team leader Leon Camier had won all but three of them. In a new development, three was the number of BSB victories available at Brands Hatch, venue for round eight, where an extra race on Saturday had been added to the programme for the first time. Would Camier just add to his tally?
8/16/09 - Rossi gains the advantage in Czech GP
There had been an unusual result in the British GP, and yet 2009 MotoGP World Championship leader Valentino Rossi had come out of it better than his main rivals, to strengthen his position. The Fiat Yamaha rider would still have to contend with team-mate Jorge Lorenzo in the eleventh round, at Brno in the Czech Republic, but were all other challenges now effectively over?
8/9/09 - Dramatic BSB race action at Mallory Park
The 2009 British Superbike Championship continued to look like it would become the property of Leon Camier and his Airwaves Yamaha team, also the winners in 2008 with Ducati bikes and rider Shane Byrne. Round seven was at the Mallory Park circuit, where Camier had won as a Supersport rider in 2005. Would he extend his run of wins in the 2009 Superbike series?
7/26/09 - 1st MotoGP win for Andrea Dovizioso
The Fiat Yamaha riders had been on top again in the German Grand Prix, and of course this kept them in front in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship. Valentino Rossi now led team-mate Jorge Lorenzo by 14 points, with the challenge from Ducati rider Casey Stoner apparently fading as Honda rider Dani Pedrosa got back to form. Round ten would be the final visit to Donington Park.
7/19/09 - Valentino Rossi wins the German GP
Honda’s Dani Pedrosa had bounced back to win the US Grand Prix, but still the Fiat Yamaha riders controlled the 2009 MotoGP World Championship. Valentino Rossi led team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, with Ducati rider Casey Stoner still close behind, and Pedrosa trailing in fourth. It was back to Europe for round nine, the German race at the Sachsenring, where battle would recommence.
7/19/09 - Leon Camier again in BSB at Knockhill
22-year-old Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier was looking increasingly more comfortable as leader of the 2009 British Superbike Championship, with a 55-point advantage after winning both races at Snetterton. However, the Knockhill circuit in Scotland, venue for round six, was somewhere that his GSE Racing team had never won at in all their years running Ducati bikes.
7/9/09 - Dani Pedrosa wins the Laguna Seca GP
Valentino Rossi’s 100th Grand Prix win at Assen had taken the Italian Fiat Yamaha rider just clear of team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, and Marlboro Ducati rival Casey Stoner, in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship. The current 800cc Yamaha YZR-M1 seemed to be setting the pace, with five wins from seven races, but the likely title winner was far from clear at this stage in proceedings.
7/9/09 - Another Camier BSB double at Snetterton
22-year-old Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier had now won six races from eight in the 2009 British Superbike Championship, giving himself a margin of 38 points over the nearest challenger: 28-year-old team-mate James Ellison, with one race win and three second place results. Would Honda or Suzuki riders get the better of these two at the Snetterton races?
6/28/09 - Rossi’s 100th Grand Prix win at Assen
It couldn’t have been closer: after six races of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, three riders shared the lead on 106 points. Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi had been the only men to win races, and they clearly led the way. Round seven was at Assen, where Rossi has won six Grands Prix, Lorenzo three and Stoner just the one. Surely one of them would add another.
6/18/09 - Rossi wins last lap tussle in Catalan GP
The 2009 MotoGP World Championship was turning into a three-way race among the riders, with Fiat Yamaha team-mates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in competition with Marlboro Ducati team leader Casey Stoner. The Australian had won in Italy to move into first overall, but conditions had been changing on that occasion, and were the Yamaha men ahead on dry race pace?
